Designing new opportunities for home loans

Design and strategy for a financial services venture

Achievments

Designed a public facing website and cloud based complex app
Led design for rapid prototyping and iteration of two systems
Developed a visual and interaction design system

Sussed is a financial services startup that enables lenders to compete for home loans, and customers to get the best available loan conditions for their needs. I designed their alpha product, defining the information architecture, workflows, design system, and user interface design for both their public-facing website and internal-facing systems.

Behaviour Design

For both the public-facing website and the bank-facing web app, I used a modified BJ Fogg Behaviour Model to guide the balance between the complexity required for efficient task completion and the varying capabilities and levels of motivation of each system’s respective users. The public website prioritised engagement, favouring the emotional journey and storytelling needed to build a user's motivation to the point where we could ask them to provide detailed data while minimising the chances of drop-out. The cloud app prioritised delivering the right information and functionality as quickly as possible, knowing that users were entering the system with a high level of motivation and subject matter expertise.

Interaction Design

Guided by this behaviour design model I created multiple rapid wireframes to explore user flows and possible ways of presenting data to both the public and lenders. These were turned into prototypes to demonstrate to stakeholders and test with users, allowing for rapid iteration based on feedback and observed behaviour. As the prototypes evolved, they progressed in complexity from wireframe design prototypes to fully styled, functional prototypes. As the designs developed, the interaction and graphic design decisions were codified into a design system to support ongoing integration and scalability of the products.
